Waiting :: Papers
Waiting Im ill again. It doesnt surprise me. Deja vu. I had to catch the bus from outside school, after persuading my teachers that I was going to a revivifys appointment and not just skipping lessons. I have been waiting on these hard back plastic seats for nearly an hour just for one other doctor in this world to give me some antibiotics and send on my way home. This time I have come to the hospital because Mum thinks the infections getting serious, I cant notice the difference though. The hospital is a lot different from the doctors in town. I suppose its bound to be though. On the wall in front of me there is a big clock, and every minute I sit here it seems to go slower and slower. There are Doctors rushing everywhere. I dont really think I want to be a doctor. You have to be good at science. Im not. A man has just walked in through the automatic sliding doors, which allow an artic wind to run right through my body. He is wearing away big black boots with a headscarf tied loosely slightly the big matt of curly hair left messily on his head. Pulled tightly over his big fat stomach is a t-shirt apothegm Greenpeace on it. His trousers are black and come to just above his ankle. He reminds me a lot like the man that used to own the music crap in town. A young boy follows him. I think it must be his son as he too has curly hair and is wearing a similar t-shirt saying Greenpeace. He doesnt look at all happy. His arms are tightly folded and you can see he has been crying. I bet his Mums expecting a baby and he doesnt want it to be a girl. Yes I am right, they have just made their way towards the labour ward. Theyll be waiting a long time in there. Every so often a policeman will walk past. They all look so bored, like me. I used to want to be a police lady, but not anymore.

The Story of Anne Frank Learning about the final solution can be extremely difficult due to the massive amount of information it entails. In addition, the Holocaust was a tragic event on so massive a scale it is hard to emotionally comprehend. Comparison is a common federal agency of better understanding and exploring unknown topics. One further step is to bring the topic to a personal level, so one can actually name known concepts and individual ideas to any new aspects. In other words, an individual in todays society will receive a deeper and more thorough understanding of the Holocaust if able to compare with an individual living during the Holocaust. One individual who has made it possible to learn more about the Holocaust on a personal level is Anne Frank. This young Jewish girl preserved everyday events during the Holocaust in a diary she kept. For two years Anne was hiding from Nazis, and while imprisoned she used her diary for an escape mentally and emotionally. A quote f rom Eleanor Roosevelt describes her diary the best. This is a remarkable book. Written by a young girl-and the young are not afraid of telling truth-it is one of the wisest and most moving commentaries on war and its impact on human beings that I have ever read. 1 This diary in every sense of the word is a gift given by Anne Frank, to all those who pursue learn of the Holocaust and to those who still await peace and satisfaction within their own hearts. Transcendence in Marilynne Robinsons Housekeeping William H. Burke suggests that transience in Marilynne Robinsons Housekeeping is a lawsuit of pilgrimage, and that the rigors and self-denials of the transient life are necessary spiritual conditioning for the valued crossing from the experience of a world of loss and fragmentation to the perception of a world that is whole and complete (717). The world of reality in Housekeeping is one fragmented, isolated, and arbitrary as glimpses one has at night through lighten up windows (Robinson 50). Many of the characters that precede Ruth in the narrative rebel against something in this world that is not right. Edmund Foster, her grandfather, escapes by train to the Midwest and his house is no to a greater extent a human stronghold than a grave (3). His daughters, Molly, Sylvie, and Helen, all abandon their home and their mother Helen, in fact, makes the greatest leap away from the world into last when she cannot effectively deal with the expectations placed on her to set up housekeeping in Seattle with husband and children (14). Ruth takes up a transient life with her teach and aunt, Sylvie, to escape from history and the past into a new life, a new awareness. Crucial to this spiritual awakening is the abandonment and the isolation of the self. Transience is Ruths escape from the impermanent illusory world, a world that rejects one of the tenets of transience, that the perimeters of our wanderings are nowhere , in favor of fixity and stasis (218). Eliezer Wiesel loses his faith in god, family and humanity through the experiences he has from the Nazi concentration camp. Eliezer loses faith in god. He struggles physically and mentally for life and no longer believes there is a god. Never shall I forget those moments which murdered my god and my soul and turned my dreams to dust...(pg 32). Elie worked hard to save himself and asks god many times to help him and take him out of his misery. Why should I bless his name? The eternal, lord of the universe, the all-powerful and indefinable was silent...(pg 31). Eliezer is confused, because he does non know why the Germans would kill his face, and does not know why god could let such a thing happen. I did not deny gods existence, but I doubted his absolute justice...(pg 42). These conditions gave him confidence, and courage to live. Eliezer loses faith in his family. He and his mother and sister were parted at the camp and he has no hope to see them ever again. Men to the left Women to the right...(pg 27). His father is getting old, and weak, and Elie realizes his father does not have the strength to survive on his own, and it is too of late to save him. Its too late to save your old father, I said to myself...(pg 105). He felt guilty because he could not help his father, but he knew the only way to live is to watch out for himself. Here, every man has to fight for himself and not think of anyone else. Even of his father...(pg 105). He thinks of himself, and Eliezer loses hope, trust, and his beliefs. He begins to rely on himself because he knew that only he can help himself and he could not depend on anyone else. Never shall I forget those flames which consumed my faith forever...(pg 32).
